NYC Event Recap

New York City, NY – September 16, 2009
The Carter Burden Luncheon Club and Senior Program
The Andrew Jackson Senior Center

The Patchwork of Hope Network (P.H.N.) swept into the Big Apple on September 15 celebrating the final leg of its tour concurrent with the first annual PHN Awareness Day. Two New York senior centers played host to the concluding events on September 16: the Carter Burden Luncheon Club in Manhattan and The Andrew Jackson Senior Center in the Bronx. Dr. Christopher Gharibo, medical director of pain medicine at New York University (NYU) and Dr. Ernesto Lopez, medical director of the Washington Heights Medical Plaza in New York presented to audiences at the two centers totaling just over 100 people. Representatives from the National Council on Aging and National Pain Foundation, as well as after-shingles pain sufferer, Kathy Sebby, joined the physicians to discuss the risks and signs of shingles and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), also known as after-shingles pain.

At the conclusion of the presentations, attendees at both senior centers added about 40 squares to the growing P.H.N. quilt, which arrived in New York from Atlanta.
