San Diego, CA Event Recap
San Diego, CA – July 17, 2009Continuing its sweep across the nation, The Patchwork of Hope Network (P.H.N.) landed in San Diego on July 17. The third event kicked off at the War Memorial Building as more than 50 attendees of all ages listened to local physician, Dr. Bill McCarberg, and representatives from the National Council on Aging and National Pain Foundation discuss the risks and signs of shingles and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), also known as after-shingles pain. After-shingles pain sufferer, Kathy Sebby, also joined the group again to share her own struggles with shingles and PHN.
Following the presentation, the San Diego event attendees added 30 squares to the P.H.N. quilt, which had just arrived from the last event in Dallas. Members of the Canyon Ranch Quilting Guild and the Sunshine Quilting Guild worked together to prepare for this portion of the event by sewing colorful borders on each quilt square that the attendees later decorated.

Local physician, Dr. Bill McCarberg, M.D., is the founder of the Chronic Pain Management Program for Kaiser Permanente in San Diego, CA
