Northfield, IL – August 10, 2009North Shore Senior Center
The Patchwork of Hope NetworkTM (P.H.N.) rounded the country to the Midwest stopping in Northfield, Ill for the fourth event. Chicago physician Steven Stanos, D.O., medical director of the Chronic Pain Care Center in the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, drew an audience of more than 40 local seniors as he talked about shingles and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), or after-shingles pain. Sufferer Kathy Sebby and representatives from the National Council on Aging (NCOA) and the National Pain Foundation (NPF) joined Dr. Stanos as they described their own experiences with shingles and PHN. Chicago’s own NBC-affiliate news station and the Winnetka Talk helped spread the word about the event.
Attendees joined area quilters after the seminar to decorate their own quilt squares for the P.H.N. quilt, which will serve as a handmade testimonial to those who are affected by after-shingles pain and a reminder that they do not have to face after-shingles pain alone. More than 30 quilt squares were completed and added to the quilt that travelled on to Atlanta.
