Awards & Recognition

The 2009 Patchwork of Hope NetworkTM (P.H.N), an educational campaign that swept across the nation to help raise awareness of shingles and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), also known as after-shingles pain, wrapped up its first year touching more than 156 million lives. As a result of the campaign’s impact and success, the following public relations and marketing organizations have awarded the Patchwork of Hope Network with special recognition.

Trailblazer Awards

In September 2009, “The Patchwork of Hope Network, Sewing Together Hope for Life After Shingles,” was named the winner of the best “Unbranded Campaign” for the Product Management 306 Innovation Trailblazer Awards. The Trailblazer Awards recognize outstanding achievements in healthcare marketing for three categories: companies, brands and initiatives. Winners were selected based on their creative approach to marketing through techniques that included Web sites, interactive tools, podcasts, third-party partnerships and more.


Web Health Awards

AfterShingles.com, a key component and the on-line home of the Patchwork of Hope Network campaign, was recognized by the Spring/Summer 2009 Web Health Awards Program for the content, creativity and overall design of the Web site. The Web Health Awards is a program that recognizes the best Web-based health-related content for consumers and professionals. The site received a “Merit” award for its success in delivering educational messages about shingles and PHN, as well as its inventiveness and interactivity.


IABC Golden Flame

AfterShingles.com was also awarded a Silver Golden Flame Award by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Atlanta. The award was given in the Overall Effort – Digital: Web site category. The 2009 awards drew more than 250 total award entries in 80 categories. The Golden Flame Awards program is a yearly event held by the IABC/Atlanta chapter to recognize excellence in communications. Awards are presented at the annual Golden Flame Awards Banquet, which highlights the achievements of local professionals and companies in a variety of categories, including print media, electronic media, graphic communications and media relations.


PRSA|GA Phoenix

The Georgia chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) awarded the Patchwork of Hope Network a Certificate of Excellence for its campaign brochure in October 2009. The PRSA|GA Phoenix Awards is an annual competition designed to recognize programs and projects that demonstrate excellence in the public relations profession in Georgia. Program entries were evaluated based on research, planning, execution and evaluation, and project entries were evaluated based on planning/content, creativity/quality, technical excellence and results.
